Midland Sailing Club is a RYA training centre and the ideal place to get into sailing, whether you are a complete beginner, or have some previous experience. We are an entirely voluntary members Club, and our qualified instructors do not get paid. We run training to introduce people to the sport in the hope that they will share our passion for sailing and continue to sail with us, and so we require that any trainees join, or are already members of Midland Sailing Club. Dates for next course: 6th,7th,8th, 13th,14th,15th 21st,22nd &23rd August. The programme and times will be similar to that shown for May below.

We offer a complete package of training, Club membership and boat hire that will enable you to quickly develop your new skills, build confidence, and maximize your enjoyment of your new sport.

The complete package includes:

  • Start Sailing course (Level 1)
  • Basic Skills course   (Level 2)
  • Full Club membership until 31st March 2011
  • 6 sessions of boat hire during organised club sailing when there is safety boat cover.

Cost includes membership until 30 May 2011

Start Sailing course.
Adults      £270
Family      £200 each
Students £185 (in full time education)
Juniors    £150 (under 18)

Existing members please ask about rates.

The total cost for the package gives a saving on the separate costs of the course fee,  membership,  joining fee and boat hire (6 vouchers x £10).

If you are a total beginner we recommend that you do both the Start Sailing and Basic Skills courses. This will give you the skills that you need to sail in moderate conditions and will be the requirement of any establishment hiring sailing boats. If you do the Start Sailing course and decide sailing is not for you, then we will give you a refund so you will pay just £105.

If you have some sailing experience it may be possible for you to progress directly to the Basic Skills course, subject to our assessment of your existing level of competence. If you go straight to the Basic Skills course the cost of the Adult package will be £215.

If you are at all uncertain which path is right for you, please e-mail principal@midlandsailingclub.org.uk or call 0121 472 4556 to discuss the options available.
You will also be made most welcome to drop in to see us at the Club on Saturday afternoons or Wednesday evenings, but please ‘phone or e-mail beforehand so we can ensure there is someone expecting you.

What to Wear

We do not expect our trainees to have their own ‘sailing gear’. We provide you with a buoyancy aid and we have a limited selection of clean but “cast off” wetsuits, gloves, boots and spraytops which you are welcome to borrow for the duration of the course if you wish. Please bring warm and waterproof clothing with you.
