Racing at MSC
There are four main fleets at MSC, Merlin Rocket, GP14, Enterprise and Solo with racing taking place throughout the year on a handicap system. Other classes including Fireball, National 12, Laser, Laser 2K, Laser Radial, RS Vision, RS Feva, Topper, Optimist, Europe, Mirror often put in an appearance and are encouraged to do so - in fact we welcome all monohull dinghies. Even an occasional International Moth!
Club boats, Laser 2K, RS Vision, Enterprise, GP14, Laser, Feva, Topper, Optomist are available for hire by qualified members.
During the winter there are two races each Saturday with 13.00/13.30 and 15.00 start times. The summer season includes a Wednesday evening series from April to September at 6.30/7.00pm. The races are divided into classes, menagerie and personal handicaps; there is something to go for for everyone.
We have a fully automated light and sound signal system for all races. Flags are more or less history!
A brand new 4 metre Dory along with other power boats keeps us safe on the water.
Always available after the first race is an excellent choice of pies, sandwiches, cake, chocolate bars, tea and coffee with the bar opening after the last race.
Competition is keen but good-natured, although protests have been known to surface. We have adopted the RYA multi tier dispute resolution scheme. This enables members to learn from racing situations. The less experienced sailors are encouraged to take part in racing as the Club feels this is one way to improve their skills. The racing is very forgiving!
