Calling All Enterprise Sailors
I have been lucky enough to have been asked to take on the role of Class Captain at Midland and I am very keen to encourage our Enterprise owners/sailors to venture out on to the water. We have a number of boats in the club and two or three are regularly seen out racing. It would be excellent to attract more of you and to this end; I would like to know from you, what I can do ‘prise’ you from whatever it is that stops you sailing.
I intend there to be a regular Enterprise Fleet News feature in both mainsheet and on the MSC website and want to include topics such as Open Meeting News – detailing the performances of Midland Enterprise sailors on the open meeting circuit and at championships; up to date race results and current positions in MSC race series, developments within the class and any other news, information or gossip that may be of interest.
It may interest you to know that we have two members of our club, on the Enterprise Class Association – National Committee. Namely Paul Young in the roles of Rear Commodore, Fixtures Secretary and Midlands Area Secretary; and his regular crew, Alison Torrens who is a member of the National Coaching and Recruitment Team and also a Midlands Area Representative, so if anybody would like to know more about what goes on within the association, both Paul and Alison will be very happy to talk to you.
As well as being a well established RYA Senior Instructor, Paul has recently completed the RYA ‘Top Mark’ coaching qualification and is now able to provide race coaching. Well done Youngy!!
Racing at Midland
In respect of the race series’ at Midland, I wish to encourage more boats out onto the water to participate, we already have a personal handicap system in place, which can be utilised to give everyone competing, a fair chance of gaining good results and being amongst the prizes at the end of the year.
Race results and series positions to date, will also be a feature of this section.
We can organise boat tuning clinics and coaching events to help get the best out of both boat and crew.
But if racing is not your thing, get your boat anyway or come down to the club and have a ride around in somebody else’s!
