I've been a member of Midland Sailing club since 2002, served on the committee of management and proudly held the office of Commodore from 2009- 2011
In February 2007 I bought an old Enterprise Dinghy No: 5704. On discovering that her original name was 'Tooktoolong' I restored this most appropriate name to her. It took too long for me to discover the joys of sailing, took too long for me to buy a boat and it takes far too long for me to finish races! She was actually named 'Tooktoolong' because it took such a long while to build her. According to club legend she was constructed from timbers from the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton. On hearing this I had just had to trumpet her name. From having a load of luvvies treading her boards she now has one fat luvvie sitting on them!
Although I own an Enterprise I love to sail any sort of boat, big or small. I do miss a spinnaker but with the large sail area of an Ent I do enjoy passing boats with a collapsed kite flailingin the wind - mentioning no names of course!
In September 2011 I moved with my young family to Kingsbridge, Devon where I am self-appointed Rear Commodore MSC South Western Flotilla!!!! Devon is lovely place and The Salcombe/Kingsbridge Estuary (Ria) a beautiful place to sail. But I love and miss Midland Sailing Club, it's squitty bit of water and iffy winds and I miss my friends and fellow sailors. Enjoy it...there's nowhere like MSC!
